The Micropolitan Indices are broad indicators of the current local economic conditions for each of Kansas’ seventeen micropolitan areas developed by CEDBR.   Each area’s Micropolitan Index is a combination of the area’s quarterly total employment level, unemployment rate, retail sales, and, as appropriate to reflect the industry base of the region, local manufacturing wages, Kansas oil production and Kansas farm proprietor’s income. 

A micropolitan area includes a core urban area of 10,000 to 50,000 residents and the surrounding county or counties that have a high degree of social and economic integration with the core urban area.  A map of Kansas’ micropolitan and metropolitan statistical areas can be found at:
